AET

AET English Literacy & Numeracy Training (Umaluzi accredited)

Prospective students fill out an application form submitting supporting documents. We then conduct a 3-hour English Literacy & Numeracy assessment which is marked and moderated externally. Successful applicants are placed in tutor groups according to the appropriate level of training i.e. ABET Level 1 to Level 4, and training commences, with contact sessions once a week (8am to 3h30pm) for 4-6 months. Students write an external exam and receive an Umaluzi Certificate on passing.

Learnerships

General Education & Training Certificate
(Abet Level 4)

We conduct training days over 12 months to ensure all core, foundational and elective unit standards that are part of the learnership course material are covered. Learners learn to work individually and in groups to finalise projects, presentations and assessments.    On average there is one day of training per week over 12 months. Unemployed learners are placed for relevant work experience in line with their future career ambitions, and we motivate for students to be employed into organisations once training is completed. Learners also receive a monthly stipend.

Skills Courses

Careerlinx offers extra skills courses with partner NPOs, such as sewing, woodwork and welding, and up to 6 training days of career guidance and coaching for each student as part of the learnership.

Careerlinx offers extra skills courses, some with partner NPOs, as part of the learnership, such as computer literacy, sewing, woodwork, and welding, as well as up to 6 training days of career guidance and work readiness training. These courses can also be offered separately to beneficiaries.

Practical and Soft Skills

The Importance of Work Readiness Training

Young people are ill prepared to enter into the work place. A lack of exposure to the business environment, as well as underdeveloped interpersonal or soft skills, result in these candidates not succeeding in the work place despite having potential to develop the skills and the ability to perform the tasks required. Our candidates need more intensive and detailed work place soft skills preparation, specifically aimed at the working environment.

We Cover

Our workplace training comprehensively covers how to identify personal values and ethics, as well as inappropriate behaviours. We focus strongly on self-management practices such as timekeeping, budgeting and workplace etiquette, and how to understand the employer/employee relationship. Lastly, we strengthen our learner’s computer skills so that they can not only function, but also thrive in the workplace.

Missing Step

When a young person is employed there is a certain expectation of their ability to integrate into the work place. The sad fact is that due to social disparity in the communities they were raised in they are unprepared to meet the basic soft skills expectations of the employer.

We have identified a missing step of intervention that is required before we connect unemployed beneficiaries to opportunities, that will enable them to function in the workplace, develop marketable skills and ultimately careers that will enable them to become effective contributors to the South African Economy.

How This Helps

This missing step is creating a bottleneck for the majority of young people hindering them from accessing work, entrepreneurial and skills opportunities.

We work with facilitators who are passionate to impart knowledge, ensuring quality training, which is delivered in a nurturing and safe environment. Our team dynamics are positive and real, which overflows into an impactful training experience for our learners, an excellent attendance record and pass rate.  We are proudly strategic and resourceful, consistently delivering good work and achieving excellent results that are compassion driven.
